The mission of Houghton Horns is to spread the joy of music through providing the highest level of products, services, and resources to the brass playing community.
Founded in 1985 by Dennis and Karen Houghton in Texas, Dennis’ Horn Shop started as a humble venture, specializing in horn repair and instruction. It swiftly built a reputation for delivering exceptional service, primarily catering to local students and schools with their cleaning and repair needs.
In 2006, the business evolved into Houghton Horns LLC, embarking on a new chapter with a shift towards retail. This pivotal moment included welcoming Dennis and Karen’s son, Mark Houghton, as a founding owner, significantly enriching the family business. The company expanded its offerings to include a wide array of high-quality horns, thanks to partnerships with esteemed manufacturers. In 2016, the addition of Derek J. Wright and his wife, Kacie Wright, to the ownership team injected fresh expertise in technology and marketing, greatly enhancing the company’s operations.
The year 2016 was a landmark for Houghton Horns as they moved into a 2000 square foot facility at 121 Lorine Street, Keller, Texas. This expansion allowed for a larger retail space, enabling the display of an extensive selection of horns and accessories. This development not only maintained their foundation in repair and instruction but also extended their retail capabilities, offering a richer sales experience for their patrons.
We are thrilled to announce a new chapter in our journey with the acquisition of the historic property at 137 E Hill St in Keller, TX. This building, which has served the community in various capacities since the 1950s, first as a church and later as a funeral chapel, became the new home of our retail operations in February, 2025.
Our decision to purchase this landmark space is fueled by our commitment to enhancing our service offerings and deepening our community ties. With 5,685 square feet at our disposal, including a versatile 2,035 square-foot auditorium, this facility allows us to expand our retail environment significantly. During the week, the auditorium serves as our primary showroom for high-quality brass instruments and accessories. On weekends, it transforms into a vibrant cultural venue hosting performances and masterclasses that showcase both classical and jazz music.
The relocation of our retail operations to 137 E Hill St, while maintaining our repair shop at 121 Lorine St, represents a strategic enhancement of our business capabilities. This new setup not only allows us to expand our inventory and improve customer experience but also helps us contribute more actively to Keller’s cultural scene.
We are genuinely excited about the possibilities this new space opens up—not just for our business but also for the entire Keller community. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our new location, promising an enriched experience that celebrates the joy of music.
